Old Man Casting

Yesterday’s entry was cut short by the arrival of my son and his girlfriend. Interruptions and unfinished entries are of fact of life. Since I want to keep the date in line with the date of the actual writing I will try and follow two rules. I will not leave the reader hanging – this is not a soap opera. I will tie up any loose ends left hanging in the previous day’s entry in the next entry and I will not post the entry until any loose ends have been tied up. Let’s hope that these rules do not lead to an endless chain of un-published entries.

Old Man-casting is my own personal contribution to or perversion of the language. Old man-casting are things I do to prepare for the day I can not remember anything, and want to sit around and tell stories. In short, it is preparation for old-age. It is one of the reason to take hundreds of photos, make short audio notes, and now the journal.

Today I have an appointment to get vaccinations and booster shots in preparation for my trip. I spoke to the travel nurse at Kaiser yesterday; I neglected to get a final list of what I would need, but I know that I will need to take an anti-malarial drug, get a polio boost and a Hepatitis ‘B’; I would assume that I will also need a typhoid and yellow fever vaccination.

The Lonely Planet book on Pakistan recommends that I carry a prescription antibiotic; Kaiser does not recommend it. I will speak to my physician and see what he thinks is necessary. I also need to get a prescription for Ambien – the flight will be brutal. Coach is so uncomfortable that I will need to force sleep. Since I have an appointment this morning I better review the health recommendation. I will continue later.
